The Canvas In The Garden Studio is located in La Quinta, California. If you are familiar with Palm Springs, it is approximately 25 miles east of there. The desert is full of very talented artists that regularly exhibit there….seasonally, as it is too hot for outdoor venues half of the year. Typically the show season is late October to mid April. People from all over the world attend the desert’s art shows. It is definitely an “Art Hub”.

La Quinta has a vibrant history of Art Shows and other Venues for artists to exhibit and sell their works of art. Garrison Wayne and Chad Allen have been residents of La Quinta since 2006. They have been exhibiting at at Art On Main Street in Old Town La Quinta for a number of consecutive years. The show was previously known as Art Under The Umbrellas…..(they fit right in there, Ha!). They have been guests of the La Quinta Art Festival and also have had a regular presence at the Southwest Festival in Indio, Ca. That show is held the last weekend in January, annually. It is a four day festival.

Wayne and Allen began their art umbrella business in 1999 in Huntington Beach, Ca. The name “Canvas In The Garden” is intended to depict “Art on a Canvas” that is useable in the garden or any other outdoor space. As they look back on all their work, they find it remarkable, just how may things they have painted and designed over the years. Garrison is the primary creator of the designs. He like to keep things in motion, so there are always new things being created at the Canvas In The Garden Studio.

The process for painting an umbrella starts with the topside of the umbrella. The canvas (acrylic fabric) is removed from the new frame and stretched onto an older frame that is specifically used for only painting. The bottom section (the lower pole) is not used, so Garrison can stand and turn the umbrella like a carousel as he paints each section (8 panels). When the topside is completed, it will dry overnight and be flipped over to paint the underside to match (mirror image). When the underside has dried overnight, it is stretched on the new frame to further dry for at least 10 days before taking to a show or shipping out.

Canvas In The Garden has shipped umbrellas all over the greater U.S. for some 22 years. They have a lot of repeat customer business, which can attest to the fact that their customers truly enjoy having a Canvas In The Garden Umbrella in their outdoor space.

If you are in the area, and Canvas In The Garden does not have any upcoming shows/exhibits,….feel free to make an appointment to order or view existing inventory at the Studio. (760) 777-9639
